Roots of Stability: Kelsey's Path to Homeownership

My name is Kelsey, and I feel incredibly blessed that my family has been chosen to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build our home.

I have two sons. My youngest, Creed, is 5, almost 6 and just graduated from kindergarten. He loves spending time with me, and being his mom is my greatest joy. My oldest, Brayden, is 18 and will be starting college this August. He was adopted by my grandparents, but I’ve been fortunate to remain a part of his life, and I am truly thankful for that opportunity.

By the grace of God, I have been clean from active addiction for over six years. In that time, I’ve accomplished so much. Moving back to Arkansas and repairing my relationships with my family has been a top priority. Every day, I work hard to be the best mom I can be.

I completed cosmetology school and now specialize in men’s haircuts. I love what I do, but I’m also eager to continue my education. One of my goals is to earn a master’s degree in psychology, and I’m excited about the possibilities this next chapter holds.

Partnering with Habitat for Humanity is a life-changing opportunity. Building our own home will give us stability and a foundation for success, something I’ve been working toward since changing my life. Before learning about this program, homeownership felt out of reach, but thanks to a client who shared the opportunity, my family’s dream is becoming a reality.

I’m especially excited about a few things: having my own garden and planting rose bushes, a backyard where Creed can play safely, getting a dog (which Creed has been begging for), and having space for Brayden when he visits.

I cannot thank Habitat enough for seeing something in our application and choosing us to partner with them. This home represents so much hope, stability, and opportunity for my family, and I cannot wait to see where this journey takes us.
